📡 Our Data

Price data is sourced from the Queensland Government's FuelWatch open data feed, which service stations are legally required to report to. This means prices are accurate and up to date — typically within a few hours of a station changing its price.

We do not manually enter or estimate any prices. All figures come directly from official feeds.

🛢 How Oil Prices Affect Your Pump Price

The price you pay at the bowser is connected to global crude oil markets, but there are many steps and costs in between. Here's how a barrel of crude becomes a litre of unleaded:

Crude Oil
USD on world markets
AUD Conversion
Exchange rate:
Refining
+A$20–30/bbl
Processing to petrol
Transport & Tax
+49.6c/L
Excise + shipping

⚠️

Note: The federal fuel excise is currently subject to change. The Australian Government has previously halved the excise rate in response to global fuel price pressures and may adjust it again at any time. Always check the ATO's current excise rates for the latest figure.

This is why a falling AUD can push up local pump prices even when world oil prices are steady — and why prices vary between regions depending on supply chain costs.

The oil price widget on our homepage shows live Brent and WTI crude prices converted to AUD, so you can understand how global markets are moving.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are prices updated?
Prices are refreshed from the government data feed multiple times per day. Most stations update their reported price within a few hours of any change at the bowser.
Why is the price different to what I saw at the servo?
Stations may change prices mid-day. There can be a short lag between a price change and the feed update. Always verify at the bowser before fuelling.
What does the crude oil price per litre actually mean?
The crude oil price per litre shows what the raw ingredient costs — before refining, transport, taxes, and retail margins are added. It's a useful indicator of direction (rising vs falling) but won't match your pump price directly.
